7th Sunday service is launched

Holy Trinity Brompton is to launch a seventh Sunday service in January – a new morning service at St Paul’s Onslow Square.

The new 11am service will be the third service at St Paul’s. The 9am and 6pm services were launched in September.

The new service will have a relaxed style, beginning with brunch – bacon rolls, croissants and coffee – served from a breakfast bar at the back of the church. Sunday newspapers will also be available.

The service will be pastored by Al Gordon and a team of volunteers and will have a similar ‘feel’ to the new 6pm service at St Paul’s. It will be launched on January 20.

Capacity

It will have a relaxed and informal feel and there will be no chairs in the main body of the church. There will be a creche for babies but the main children’s work will continue to be based at the two morning services at Holy Trinity Brompton – at 9.30am and 11.30am.

The talk at the new 11am service will be the talk given at the 9.30am service at Holy Trinity – seen by DVD on a big screen.

The four services at Holy Trinity Brompton – at 9.30am, 11.30am, 5pm and 7pm – are continuing to fill the church to capacity and the new service at St Paul’s will further help to reduce overcrowding at peak times.

Brunch and Worship

It will be church with a difference when ‘The Eleven’ is launched at St Paul’s Onslow Square on Sunday, January 20.

For the first half an hour, there will be what service pastor Al Gordon describes as ‘the best brunch in London’ – bacon rolls, muesli bar, coffee, croissants – and a chance to relax and chat to friends. Sunday newspapers will be available.

Then the worship will start at around 11.30am and teaching by DVD recorded from the 9.30am service at Holy Trinity.

Al said, ‘There will be brunch served from 11am and a really relaxed feel. It will be a great way to set up your Sunday.

‘Come to church, hang out with your friends, enjoy a cup of coffee and brunch before having evening-style church with extended worship, teaching and ministry.

‘ We are really excited about this chance to experiment with a model of church community. It will be like the Six but in the morning.

‘Worship will be really relaxed – informal, band-led, a little bit like the evening services at HTB.

‘The plan is to have no chairs in the body of the church to allow people to have space and flexibility during the worship and ministry times.

‘The teaching will be by DVD and follows the success of the teaching at the 6pm service at St Paul’s which comes from the 5pm at HTB.

‘We are hoping to see lots of involvement from the congregation, with lay people owning and participating in the service to a greater extent.’

Al Gordon spoke about his excitement at the growth of the 6pm service at St Paul’s, which he has been pastoring since its launch.

He said, ‘We have been really blown away by what has been going on at the 6pm service over the last couple of months, with a real sense of community, informality and participation from the congregation.

‘We’ve been excited at seeing hundreds of young people come to church, many of them for the first time.

‘We hope that this new morning service will provide an alternative for those who can’t make the evening.

‘We hope The Eleven will be the perfect way to start your week.’
