The Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams spoke at HTB's School of Theology at Onslow Square yesterday.
He was welcomed by Dr Graham Tomlin, Principal of St Paul's Theological Centre, HTB's theological training ministry.
Dr Williams said, 'Thanks to all of you for the opportunity to be here. It is not new for me to come to the School of Theology and it is something I always look forward to enormously.
He was giving the first lecture of the new term, entitled 'An Introduction to Theology'. More than 150 people were present for the event, for which the students of the three Saturday morning 'streams' - Bible Track, Faith Track and Life Track - came together.
The purpose of theology, the Archbishop told them, is 'to make you a more joyful disciple'. He said that theology begins with experience and 'is the effort to map that new frame of reference to which you have been brought.'
