HTB curate Jago Wynne has been appointed Associate Rector of Holy Trinity Clapham with responsibility for launching a new weekly evening service, as well as overseeing the growth and expansion of Alpha and midweek discipleship groups.
He will be licensed to this new work by the Bishop of Southwark on Sunday 7th October at 10am.
Around 50 people from HTB will be accompanying Jago and his family to join the existing thriving Clapham church family. The weekly evening service will start on Sunday 14th October at 6pm.
Jago and his wife Susannah and their children Daisy and Boaz have been living in Clapham for the last two years. They have been running an HTB pastorate there, and many of that pastorate, along with people from a number of other local pastorates, are joining this exciting new venture.
Holy Trinity Clapham is a large Georgian church situated in a key location near Clapham Common tube station. It is famous for being the church where William Wilberforce and those known as the Clapham Sect worshipped as they campaigned for the abolition of the slave trade, and the transformation of the spiritual and moral state of the nation.
“People often think about how amazing it would have been to be at Holy Trinity Clapham at the end of the 18th century and beginning of the 19th century with Wilberforce. Our prayer is that people would increasingly say how amazing it is to be part of Holy Trinity Clapham right now in the first decades of the 21st century”, Jago said.
David Isherwood, Rector of Holy Trinity Clapham, said “We are delighted to welcome Jago to lead this exciting new development at Holy Trinity, and we are praying that this new venture, long planned as part of our vision for growth, will be a tremendous catalyst for connecting people with God, and deepening our knowledge of and love for Jesus Christ in the power of the Spirit. We long for the day when Holy Trinity is as full of young people on a Sunday evening as the nightclubs on Clapham High Street are on a Saturday night.”
