The leaders of the Christian movements attached to all three political parties were among 100 people who took part in the Politics Prayer meeting at HTB this morning.
Andy Flannagan, Director of the Christian Socialist Movement; Colin Bloom, Director of the Conservative Christian Fellowship; and Claire Mathys, Director of the Liberal Democrat Christian Forum, led a time of prayer for each other’s political parties.
MPs Andrew Selous and Desmond Swayne were also present.
Andrew Selous, Parliamentary Private Secretary to Ian Duncan Smith, gave a short address based on the bible verse, ‘I can do everything through him who gives me strength.’ (Phil 4:13).
He spoke of three areas which were particularly on his own heart: family life, the fate of Christians in other countries and on the horror of Human Trafficking.
Nicky Gumbel briefly interviewed Desmond Swayne, recently promoted to the Whip’s office, as well as Ian Poree, a director of the National Offender Management Service, and Tim Costello, CEO of World Vision Australia.
Prayers were led by HTB Prayer Director Pete Greig. Andy Flannagan, a musician, sang one of his own songs.
