Sunday worship resumes at St Paul's
Sunday services have started again at Holy Trinity Brompton’s sister church – St Paul’s in Onslow Square – for the first time since 2002.
A morning Holy Communion service was launched earlier this month at 9am, with music led by a choir accompanied by grand piano and organ.
An evening 6pm service is due to start on Sunday September 23, giving members of Holy Trinity Brompton a choice of six services on a Sunday.
The two churches are in the same parish and all the services will be overseen by Vicar Nicky Gumbel. Sermons at the 6pm service will usually be on the same theme as those at the HTB 5pm service.
Around 80 people attended the first 9am service of Holy Communion at St Paul’s. Welcoming the congregation, Nicky Gumbel said, ‘This building was built in 1860 for the worship of God and it has been interrupted from time to time, but today we begin again.’
The HTB chamber choir led by Director of Classical Music Simon Dixon sang Faure’s ‘Cantique de Jean Racine’ and also John Rutter’s ‘The Lord Bless You and Keep You’. Work is currently under way to repair the roof and external stonework at St Paul’s – and applications have been made to upgrade the internal fabric.
