Pastorates
Life at the heart of the church

About pastorates
Life at the heart of the church is in the pastorates. Becoming a member of a pastorate provides the ideal base from which to become involved in every area of the church. The pastorates are not one programme amongst many that the church supports; the pastorates are the church. So, if you want to get involved at HTB, the best way to do it is by joining a pastorate.
Pastorates also participate in mission and social action projects, take teams to other churches, help with Alpha courses, prayer ministry and much more. We have been running pastorates at HTB since 1978, and in that time have found them to be the best way for people to get integrated into the heart of the church, to build community, to make friends, to have fun and to develop individual gifts and ministries. Pastorate groups are run by members of the congregation, most of whom are not in full time ministry.
There are about 20-35 people in each group, and they meet fortnightly - either in the morning or the evening - in someone’s home or other venue. In the weeks in between there is an opportunity to meet in small groups that aim to enable pastoral care and the growing of disciples.
